'Elemen'tary Experience

Vegetarianism has always been a way of life for me- it is definitely a healthy and fuss free option and has been serving my body well so far. However, as I pile on the years and some kgs too, I am constantly looking for tasty yet unconventional options for satiating the taste buds. On one such sojourn, we decided to try the much spoken about Elemen in Millennia Walk.

Opening its doors to public in 2015, Elemen attempts to serve healthy, wholesome Asian and Western food in a set meal and ala carte style. The ambience is non-fussy, clean and absolutely Zen like.  The exterior is quiet and unassuming and merges into the neighboring set of shops- so keep a close watch to find this place. However, the interiors are quite a contrary-  bright with natural hues and ample lighting and comfortable furniture. A very tranquil feeling- It was a good start to the dining experience.

The service at Elemen is attentive and we had the manager of the branch dropping in quite frequently at all the tables to check on the guests.  The menu includes a 5-course meal at 23.80++ per person or the 8-course meal at 32.80++ per person. The concept though very similar to another favorite Su Food has a more natural and healthy feel to the menu selection and the dishes are more unique and light on the palate. I also this has a more Japanese influence as against Su Food’s Taiwanese influence.

We decided to go ahead and try the 8-course meal and here are my best picks.

The meal begins with an Elemen Appetizer –  the shitake mushroom with edamame in oyster sauce, one in the middle is the black sesame tofu with sesame sauce and the cherry tomato in vinegar. The team advises you to eat this right to left to feel the flavors right.  They were all nice but being the mushroom junkie that I am, the shitake mushroom was the favorite.

The rosemary breadsticks was just perfect- soft and chewy with a hint of herbs , however the star is the raspberry yogurt sauce that lends it the much required zing and leaves your tongue with a tangy treat.

The apple cider is just nice- sweet and bitter and absolutely has a taste you will need to have on your taste buds . I love my shot of cider so enjoyed this very much.

The salads are interesting – we tried Mushroom Salad and the Quinoa salad and both had its pluses. The quinoa salad was a very light salad served in a very decorative style however I didn’t really take a fancy to this one. The mushroom salad was far more interesting with 3 different types of mushroom served in a soy sauce and more. Infact I didn’t even know the name of one of the mushrooms served- it was a rare one.

The soups were again fun- I tried the Double Boiled Burdock Roots with Monk Fruits soup and quite enjoyed it. Burdock is grown largely in Japan and is believed to have numerous health benefits. Ganesh tried the more conventional Wild Mushroom with Truffle Oil soup and wasn’t disappointing as well. The soup was creamy with chunks of well done mushroom and the trufle oil adding the extra twist.

The main course was fancy- we tried the Traditional Pomodoro Pizza which seemed wood fired and just right and was a light and delicious treat. My vote was however for the sizzling Quinoa rice-served in a traditional hot stone bowl filled with brown rice, quinoa with chunks of kale, mushroom, broccoli and bell peppers and had a sesame flavor to it. I totally enjoyed this treat and the experience of eating it off a hot stone bowl.

Th desserts were a slight disappointment – we tried the Raspberry Dome which was a vanilla sponge cake with glazed raspberry puree. The cake was too hard and the puree too frozen and I didn’t enjoy this at all. The other was the Coconut infused Watermelon Sorbet was  better than the first one however had an overpowering taste of the watermelon sorbet and almost no coconut flavor in the jelly. A very average dish.

The drinks sort of made up. I had a lemongrass latte which was delightful combining my two-favorite flavors coffee and lemongrass though I would have preferred it less sweet. The iced lychee tea was good too and finished our meal well. Double thumbs up to the Lemongrass Latte.

Overall, the meal and the experience was very pleasant. Service is efficient, staff are pleasant and the ambience is peaceful. It does leave you feel refreshed from the inside and the outside.   Except for the desserts I enjoyed the rest of our meal and would certainly go back to try the rest on their menu. The manager did tell me they are looking to revamp a few dishes shortly so will head back and update soon.

Highly recommended for a celebratory meal or just a fancy dinner experience outside for some great vegetarian food and some conversation time. You simply won’t feel like getting on your smart device at this place J
